RIM BlackBerry 8700c Reviews. Smartphones Reviews by CNET.
The good: The RIM BlackBerry 8700c benefits from an Intel processor and EDGE support, as well as a bright display, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a slim design.
The bad: To our disappointment, the RIM BlackBerry 8700c uses a proprietary instant-messaging client, and Bluetooth is limited to use with headsets and car kits.
The bottom line: Armed with an Intel processor and EDGE support, the RIM BlackBerry 8700c offers mobile professionals a winning package of performance, productivity, and design.
BlackBerry 8700c review by PC Magazine
This is not your father’s BlackBerry. The BlackBerry 8700c combines the convenience of the traditional slab-style unit with the color and verve of the new 7100 models, creating a top-notch e-mail device for a new generation.
We were glad to see that the phone is quad-band, which gives the best possible international roaming experience. But BlackBerrys have generally been mediocre phones, and the 8700c is no exception. Its earpiece is loud and the speakerphone very loud, but the built-in microphone is poor at canceling background noise and we experienced several audio dropouts and fluctuations during test calls despite the BlackBerry’s interface reporting full signal strength.

It’s quite amazing just how successful the BlackBerry has been. Now I’m pretty sure that there aren’t that many people out there who absolutely MUST be contactable by email anytime and anyplace, but that simple fact hasn’t affected the mass proliferation of these devices. Quite simply, the BlackBerry has become a status symbol, just like having the coolest mobile phone, or the slimmest and lightest notebook, business users simply MUST have a BlackBerry in their pocket.
A BlackBerry is almost like a measure of importance – the more emails that you receive and have to respond to while you’re out of the office, the more important you surely must be. I’ve lost count of the amount of times that I’ve seen groups of people get onto a train and then proceed to ignore each other as they whip their BlackBerry’s out and start tapping away. What did these people do before RIM launched its pocket email device? I’m assuming that corporations didn’t crumble due to a couple of hours’ delay on an email reply

The king of mobile email is BlackBerry. Despite recent legal troubles, the company has remained strong and still is the favored device among corporate buyers and the wing-tip crowd. The competition in this segment has been growing at an impressive pace, but BlackBerry has built a foundation of dedicated users, great software, and smartly designed phones so they remain the company to beat.
This review will be taking a look at the 8700c wireless handheld device from Cingular. This device, along with its T-Mobile counterpart the 8700g, has marked a clear jump up from BlackBerry’s older products which were successful but rather unexciting from a design standpoint. While BlackBerry has been able to keep their products distinct from smart phones, the similarities between the two are growing.
